Musing: God's Jealousy and Selfishness led to His wrath.  Am not one that likes to sort of whitewash God. Almost like 'making him more presentable' for the current culture/brand. You know, acting as if some parts of the Bible do not exist or no longer applies is why there seems (in the eyes of some) to be a dearth in holiness in the Church today. The topic for this musing is unorthodox, but true. Many times the Bible discusses God's jealousy especially as it concerns His relationship with Israel. This jealousy is not in the terms of that God gets jealous that you bought a brand new Ferrari or that you own your own Jet, no! His jealousy is not like that. He gets jealous when Israel serves other gods. This jealousy is like the feeling a person has when he/she is cheated on by a spouse in a relationship. I grew up knowing the last part of James 5:16 - The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. But the first part was not so well known to me. Yet both are connected and inextricably linked. If the prayer of a certain righteous man availeth much, it is possible for the prayer of others to avail little, or not avail anything at all. Many things have been said of Apostle Peter, he seemed to be someone who was easily swayed, however there are instances when you realize that that man's obedience and loyalty to Jesus was unquestionable.  Imagine if you needed money and your pastor told you to go and catch a fish and there you will find money, how would you respond? You would probably say He is unreasonable. But Peter's walk with Jesus was such that he was sure that every word that Jesus said was so sure. Okay, you argue that your Pastor is only human and he is not Jesus, so you cannot have that kind of blind faith in him as Peter had in Jesus. Then, what about the Holy Spirit who is indwelling you? Do you know His voice? Do you recognize Him as God? Do you listen to Him? Do you obey His every command, no matter how unreasonable it is? Its a new year and I celebrate with everyone who is celebrating. But why would anyone not choose to be thankful to be alive? There are a number of reasons, and I won't grant those things even more popularity by mentioning there names, rather I would say this: you are loved beyond measure by our Father in heaven. You must hold on to this truth as it is the light that brings us out of the enemy's darkness. By the enemy's darkness, I refer to the victory Satan had, which is now lost, over man in the beginning of creation and how he got authority over the earthly realm. The moment we say 'I receive Jesus as my Lord and Saviour' and actually believe what we are saying, we become Christians. To grow as Christians, we must choose to hear what our Lord is saying, and do what He tells us to do. When God tells us to be Perfect before him, we must understand that perfection is not necessarily an end, but a continuous affair. Perfection is us hearing and obeying God in every aspect of our lives. If you have said He is your Lord, then doing what He tells you is not optional. May God help us to always hear Him and obey him completely, in Jesus name, Amen. We must also learn a vital lesson from the story of John the Baptist, a great Prophet whose mission was to prepare the way for Jesus to come. Anytime the Bible talks about something twice, I pay even closer attention. One of such times is what God says on meditation, specifically what we should meditate on.  Joshua 1:8  This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. Psalms 1:2-3  But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.  Both verses of scripture tells us to meditate on the law of the Lord.
