Things for Peace

Hi,

This is a page from my diary, treat with care, restraint and constraint.

Luk 19:41  And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it,

Luk 19:42  Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.

Luk 19:43  For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side,

Luk 19:44  And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.

I can understand if this statement sounds selfish to you, but the bible is meant for Christians and Christians alone. I will tell you why!

The bible is essentially divided into two (in terms of Covenants), the old Covenant(s) and the new covenant. The old Covenants, yes plural, are more than one. They include the Adamic Covenant, The Noahic Covenant, The Abrahamic Covenant, Mosaic Covenant and the Davidic Covenant.

All these Covenants altogether point to Jesus Christ.

God being a great economist, was using the incremental method to release title deeds that Jesus Christ alone was able to wield altogether as the new and only champion of the human race – the last Adam, the first born (not the only born) of the regenerated Spirit.

And so while Jesus walked on the earth, he showed the Unlimited supply of provision of God in the Adamic Covenant, the loving repentance of God in the Noahic Covenant, the sacrificial love of the Abrahamic Covenant, the righteousness of God in the Mosaic Covenant and the unfathomable mercy of God in the Davidic Covenant… (there are other facets in all these covenants I have not mentioned here, bear with me please.

*Side bar 1: The first thing God did when He made man was to supply all man's needs.

All these were available to the Jews in their day, that is, during Jesus’ time as he walked the earth. That is why in verse 42 above, he said:

Luk 19:42  Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.

The ‘things’ he was talking about here were the incremental covenants of God with them. These were with them but hid from them. If they were aware of them, they would have walked in supernatural peace.

The Holy Spirit through Apostle Paul said: ‘1Co_12:1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.

So let us talk about the ‘things’ that are for our peace as Christians today.

I will mention one thing: The new Covenant.

Yes, as a Christian, you have a covenant with God.

In fact, according to Owoyele T. (2019) an Anglican Venerable in the Lagos West Diocese, The Church is defined as the community of the New Covenant.

The new Covenant was summarized prophetically by different Prophets including major-prophets such as Jeremiah and Ezekiel.

The New Covenant was ratified by the blood, Jesus’ blood. (You will need to read the letter to the Hebrew Christians to understand the full picture.

Now here is a summary of the New Covenant:

Heb 8:10  For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:

Heb 8:11  And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.

Heb 8:12  For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

Don't be put off by the first verse saying the covenant is with the house of Israel, meditate on this:

Hos 2:23  And I will sow her unto me in the earth; and I will have mercy upon her that had not obtained mercy; and I will say to them which were not my people, Thou art my people; and they shall say, Thou art my God.

God removed the exclusivity of himself only to Israel, and made himself available through Jesus Christ, to all the earth.

Act 13:47  For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.

So...

How do we appropriate the Covenant? I will give an example.

Nobody can accuse you before God and/or before any person if you know that your sins and iniquities God will remember no more. Heb 8: 12

But a person has to believe Jesus is Lord and Saviour to enjoy this. That’s the only protocol I know of.

*Side bar 2: God says ‘will’, meaning it is not automatic. He will remember no more when you ask him to do so.

*Side bar 3: From Genesis to Revelation, there are so many promises of God that are now available to us because of the new covenant. But we must ask God to reveal them to us according to His will for our lives. The promises are not to be picked at random and then forwarded to God as a demand. Rather, they are to be revealed to us by His Holy Spirit as His perfect will for us at the time.

These are the ‘things’ for our peace.

So, you are missing quite a lot if you are not a Christian.
