1 Pound

‭Luke 19:11-27 NRSV‬
[11] As they were listening to this, he went on to tell a parable, because he was near Jerusalem, and because they supposed that the kingdom of God was to appear immediately. [12] So he said, “A nobleman went to a distant country to get royal power for himself and then return. [13] He summoned ten of his slaves, and gave them ten pounds, and said to them, ‘Do business with these until I come back.’ [14] But the citizens of his country hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We do not want this man to rule over us.’ [15] When he returned, having received royal power, he ordered these slaves, to whom he had given the money, to be summoned so that he might find out what they had gained by trading. [16] The first came forward and said, ‘Lord, your pound has made ten more pounds.’ [17] He said to him, ‘Well done, good slave! Because you have been trustworthy in a very small thing, take charge of ten cities.’ [18] Then the second came, saying, ‘Lord, your pound has made five pounds.’ [19] He said to him, ‘And you, rule over five cities.’ [20] Then the other came, saying, ‘Lord, here is your pound. I wrapped it up in a piece of cloth, [21] for I was afraid of you, because you are a harsh man; you take what you did not deposit, and reap what you did not sow.’ [22] He said to him, ‘I will judge you by your own words, you wicked slave! You knew, did you, that I was a harsh man, taking what I did not deposit and reaping what I did not sow? [23] Why then did you not put my money into the bank? Then when I returned, I could have collected it with interest.’ [24] He said to the bystanders, ‘Take the pound from him and give it to the one who has ten pounds.’ [25] (And they said to him, ‘Lord, he has ten pounds!’) [26] ‘I tell you, to all those who have, more will be given; but from those who have nothing, even what they have will be taken away. [27] But as for these enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them—bring them here and slaughter them in my presence.’ ”

This parable was presented in the book of Matthew, there are similarities and differences in both Matthew and Luke's versions. I have come to prefer Luke's version. I consider it to be Just and Comprehensive.

Cast:
1. Noble Man
2. Citizens
3. Slaves
4. Royal Nobel Man
5. Slave 1
6. Slave 2
7. Slave 3
8. Bystanders

Definition of Cast:

1)The Noble man is Jesus going up to heaven to be seated at the right of God the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

2)The Citizens are unbelievers. They can also be described as 'dead' to God. Being unwilling to receive the Reconciliation to God made available to them by Him through Jesus, His Lamb.

3)The slaves are believers. They are the 'living'. They have been reconciled to God through Jesus.

4) The Royal Noble Man is Jesus now returned to judge and reward.

5) The Bystanders are either Angels or Saints Triumphant

Plot:
Jesus is going to heaven to get seated at the right hand of God and get His royal Authority. He calls the believers and gives them equal amount of money because, 'Equity. This money is a typical of the Holy Spirit. Every believer gets a measure of the Holy Spirit.

However, the unbelievers insist they do not want his rulership. They are united about this.

The Holy Spirit given to the believer (both working in harmony) would help convert some unbelievers to believers. Each new believer gets 1pound - The Holy Spirit.

Royal Jesus is back with Authority and He is ready to judge and reward all. Both slaves and citizens.

He starts with His slaves first.

Slave 1. I converted 10 unbelievers.

Well done, you are in charge of 10 cities. You enjoy all the benefits accrued to 10 heavenly cities. Says Royal Jesus.

Slave 2. I only converted 5 unbelievers.

Well done. You are in charge of 5 cities and all benefits accrued.

It seems 1 pound = 1believer = 1 city

Royal Jesus showing the 'equity' in and how lucrative the Kingdom business is.

Slave 3: I did not convert any unbeliever. I left the Holy Spirit where He is, and moved on with my life. Take your Holy Spirit back. I know your type sir, so harsh! You want to reap more believers without doing any of the hard work. Am afraid of your type.

Royal Nobleman: okay if you were afraid, you could have worked with other people and still be productive for the Kingdom - like a Kingdom partner. Anyway, since you say am harsh, your words not mine, the 1 pound is taken from you and given to my most productive slave.

Bystanders: Sir, But Slave 1 already has 10 cities.

Jesus' maths:  ‘I tell you, to all those who have, more will be given; but from those who have nothing, even what they have will be taken away.

Message: the primary purpose of the Holy Spirit is to help us in the Kingdom Business. The Kingdom Business is for as many souls as possible to be reconciled to God through faith in the sacrifice of His Lamb, Jesus.

If you have read so far and you have not yet given your life to Jesus, and you want to do so now.
It is simple. Read, Believe and then Say these words.

Lord Jesus, I believe that you are the Lamb of God that taketh the sins of the world. Take my own sins away and become my Lord and Saviour. Amen.

Seek a church to attend and tell a leader there of your new found faith. I attend an Anglican church, of course, I recommend same to you.

Finally, The Royal Nobleman's words to the citizens (unbelievers) :

"But as for these enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them—bring them here and slaughter them in my presence.’ ”😬

God help and have mercy on us all. Amen.
